How we do it
Why runners matter here
St. Augustine and centipede spread by aboveground runners (stolons, per UF/IFAS) that creep across concrete and into beds. Edging every visit keeps the line where it belongs, instead of a big cut once a season.

We trim along fence lines and around trees without scalping the grass down to dirt, and we keep the trimmer line off tree trunks, where it cuts into the bark.
